The Pyramids of Giza

When I saw The pyramids of Giza for the first time, their size and age took my breath away. In the summer of 2001, my mother and I went to Cairo, Egypt. I was surprised to learn that the pyramids are about 4,500 years old. Another surprise was that in all the pictures I've seen the pyramids look fairly smooth, but when I saw them close up, I amazed to see that they are constructed of large blocks and are quite rough in appearance. The pyramids of Giza are one of the only wonders of the ancient world still standing.

  7. i liked how you picked a memory that you obviously had a strong connection with. It wasn't a recent memory, but an older memory that you can cherish forever.

I believe you could have improved on conveying the cultural significance of the Pyramids of Giza rather than state a few physical descriptions of it. For example, what is so historical about it that makes it one of the wonders of the ancient world?

  8. I wish I could see the pyramids! I like your use of personal significance and providing a small bit of history about the pyramids.

The only thing I would improve upon would be to add more cultural significance. For instance, what do they mean to the country of Egypt? or the entire world? Overall, well done.

  9. Wow, I wish I could see the pyramids! Your personal connection really made the pyramids come alive. I agree with Joe on this one. Obviously the pyramids are important to Egypt, but mentioning that to a reader that has no idea about the pyramids would be helpful. I really liked your blog, it's so interesting!

The only thing I can think of to help improve your post is perhaps choosing some more intriguing words. Other than that it looks great!

  17. I think its really cool that you showed what expectations you had of this wonder and then commented on how what you saw was not exactly what you expected. I would love to know more about why these pyramids are important to you besides the fact that you visited them.
